MGTO Promotional Activities in May

MGTO is promoting Macao via several events in western Japan
MGTO will promote Macao in the Product Update Luncheon held in Hong Kong
Mapping exhibition held in Portuguese exposes urban spaces and architectonic features of Macao

Lots of large-scale events have been lined up in Macao in May and it's a great time for travel. Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) is joining a series of activities in Portugal, Hong Kong, Spain, Japan and Malaysia (by date order), promoting Macao's 'Experience Macao Your Own Style' via multimedia presentations.

Portugal

IndieLisboa is the largest film festival in Portugal and one of the most prestigious events in the country. In its upcoming edition, 3rd to 14th May, the festival will present a section dedicated exclusively to Macao films, including Tracy Choi´s feature 'Sisterhood', which won an Audience Award at the 1st International Film Festival & Awards.Macao; in addition, four short films by other local directors will be screened.

Macao Tourism Promotion & Information Centre in Portugal (CPITMP) will sponsor several awards at the IndieLisboa Festival, promoting Macao in the form of counterparts to the sponsorship, including placement of the MGTO logo in the various graphic and promotional materials of the Festival, a promotional event on 5th May, with 'roll ups', distribution of advertising materials, and cocktails with Macanese food. Flyers and other promotional materials will be distributed in the welcome bags for some 400 guests (professionals and press) from Portugal and around the world.

Macao will also be promoted at the Biennial of Lusophone Cultures taking place in Odivelas during the month of May. Two events will include representation by Macao; namely, the Lusophone Writers' Meeting on 27th May and the Lusophone Book Fair from 9th to 31st May.

In addition, CPITMP will join forces once again with Macao-born Portuguese musician João Caetano to promote Macao during his showcase tour at FNAC stores in the three major cities of Coimbra, Porto and Braga from 18th to 20th May, promoting Macao prior to the shows with roll ups, distribution of materials and the display of the promotional video 'Experience Macao your Own Style'.

Mapping - Macao Photographers Group Exhibition is a photographic collection by eight photographers from Macao - of different ages and cultural backgrounds - exposing urban spaces and architectonic features of Macao. Presented previously in Lisbon, Porto, Évora, Setúbal and Torres Vedras, it will now be exhibited in Braga from 20th to 28th May, in the gallery of the old Train Station Building.

An event introducing the 43rd Annual Congress of the Portuguese Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (APAVT, from its Portuguese acronym) programme to Portuguese trade and media will take place in Lisbon on 23rd May attended by MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes. The 43rd Annual Congress of APAVT will take place in Macao from 23rd to 27th November.

Hong Kong

HOFEX - Asia's Leading Food & Hospitality Tradeshow is returning from 8th to 11th May at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. With Macao Government Tourism Office as supporting organization this year, the show is set to take its 50,000 trade visitors on an extraordinary journey of culinary delicacies by presenting the most comprehensive selection of food and drinks plus hospitality equipment and supplies products courtesy of the 2,500 international exhibitors from over 50 countries and regions.

The Hong Kong Association of China Travel, HACTO, is one of the eight association members of TIC. In order to update the latest tourism developments of Macao and collect market intelligence and ideas from them, MGTO HK is co-operating with HACTO to organize a Product Update Luncheon on 11th May for HACTO members, representing a golden opportunity to reach more travel agents in Hong Kong and an effective platform for both parties to discuss Macao tourism promotion.

MGTO HK is organizing a familiarization tour for Hong Kong teachers from 18th to 19th May, seeking to enrich the educational sector's knowledge regarding the culture and UNESCO-listed world heritage of Macao. The tour will also facilitate inspection of Macao's museums and accommodation facilities vis-à-vis their suitability for student groups, potential academic exchange between the two cities, and promotion of MGTO's Travel Stimulation Programme.

Spain

Trade seminars, organized by the Tourism Promotion & Information Centre in Portugal in conjunction with Spanish operator CATAI, will highlight Macao's current promotional campaign 'Experience Macao your Own Style' via a presentation of Macao to travel agents in Spain in the major cities of Zaragoza on 9th May and Valencia on 11th May.

In addition, Cathay Pacific will make a presentation for the launch of the new direct Barcelona-Hong Kong route in Barcelona on 10th May, including a presentation about Macao.

Japan

Kanku Tabihaku - the second largest travel fair in Japan, organized by KIX Airport Company and sponsored by JATA - will see MGTO Japan join the fair together with Air Macau from 27th to 28th May, to promote Macao as a travel destination. In order to maintain ties with the travel industry and inform travel professionals of the marketing plans for 2017, MGTO Japan will conduct a Travel Marketing Seminar this month in the western cities of Hiroshima, Okayama and Takamatsu.

Malaysia

MGTO Malaysia will conduct in May an online digital campaign utilising mobile advertising via an online portal featuring news, cinema and forum website.

In addition to advertising, MGTO will run advertorial content on four websites, KOLs and celebrity engagements to increase Macao's visibility and engagement with the public, showcasing Macao and upcoming major events and festivals on top performing news and infotainment website. It will also engage high profile social media influencers and local celebrity in promoting destination Macao to entice readers and fans.
