17th Macao Lotus Flower Festival Opens in Mid-June

The Scent of Lotus Perfumes the City of Macao - 17th Macao Lotus Flower Festival will be held from 10th to 18th June. This year's theme - 'Haojiang Bibo' - is a new strain of lotus cultivated specially by The Chinese National Nelumbo Research Centre to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Macao Special Administrative Region in 2009. The environs of the Taipa Houses will be decorated in South East Asian garden style employing striking geometric patterns.

During the Festival, the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) will hold a serial of lotus related activities such as Lotus Flower Exhibition Area with Miniature Constructions of South Asia, Lotus in Scenery of South Asia - Lotus Flower Floral Art Exhibition, Enchantment of Exotic Lotus - Lotus Culture Photo and Literature Exhibition, Floral Displays of South Asia-Lotus Flower Floral Art Competition and Works Exhibition and talks on lotus culture. Every Saturday and Sunday from 2:30pm to 5:30pm a model performance, body-painting workshop, dyeing and printing workshop, and bracelet making workshop will be set up in the Taipa Houses.

Other related activities will include a lotus themed banquet, searching for the Summer lotus and lotus related eco tours. IACM will also open a lotus ecological pool at specific times to enable the public to understand the plant's growing environment. The public may also enjoy lotus displays in different tourist attractions, parks, recreational areas and green areas along the street.
