Macao, China Submits Application to UNESCO Creative Cities Network for Gastronomy

The Macao Gastronomy Website is launched

Macao Special Administrative Region has submitted an application to UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of Gastronomy under the name of Macao, China. Following several months of preparation, the application documents were submitted to the UNESCO Secretariat on 14th June. The designation results will be disclosed by UNESCO by the end of October, 2017. Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes said she hopes to have good news to share then.

In tandem with the application, MGTO produced a Macao Gastronomy Website as well as a promotional video featuring the city's history, culture, festivities, cuisines, related videos and more. The themed website can be viewed at www.gastronomy.gov.mo.

If Macao is successfully designated a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of gastronomy, it will add a significant international brand to Macao's portfolio, which will have far-reaching significance, lending a powerful impetus to Macao's transformation into a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure as well as the significant diversification and sustainable development of Macao's economy.
