MSAR Government Cancels Events to Prioritise Recovery Work

In order to focus energy and resources on the recovery work to reverse the damage wrought by Typhoon Hato, the Macao SAR Government announced the cancellation of 16 public, festive, cultural and recreational events, as well as exchange activities. The decision involved the Secretariat for Administration and Justice, the Secretariat for Economy and Finance, the Secretariat for Security, and the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture.

Events and activities cancelled by the MSAR Government include: Celebration of the 8th Anniversary of IACM Volunteer Team organized by The Civil and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM); Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute's (IPIM) participation in the 9th International Senior Economic Consultative Conference of the People's Government of Shaanxi Province in Xian; event organized by Google AdWords to uplift Macao's co-operative reputation and expand its market; Macao Ideas - Macao and Portuguese-speaking Countries Product Exhibition.

Other events affected include Aprenda mais sobre os direitos do trabalhador (Learn More about the Rights of the Worker) activity and Grupo Galaxy Cerimónia de prémios - desenvolvimento profissional (Galaxy Entertainment Group Professional Development Award Presentation Ceremony) organized by the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL); annual celebration of The Industry and Commerce Association of Macao (INCA), Macao Youth Entrepreneurship and Creativity Competition, and 2nd anniversary of the Macau Design Centre organized by the Economic Services (DSE); plus the Award Presentation Ceremony for the 17th Macao Fashion Technology Competition for Youth organized by The Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Centre (CPTTM).

The Unitary Police Service's press conference for the crime rate of the second quarter has been cancelled as has the graduation ceremony of the Public Security Police Force (PSP) special operations programme; fieldtrip to Hong Kong Fire and Ambulance Services Academy; participation in the 17th International Fire Protection Equipment Technology Conference and Exposition in Beijing; and a fieldtrip to inspect the storage of dangerous chemicals in Gansu organized by the Fire Services Bureau.

Further cancelled activities include the 29th Macao International Fireworks Display Contest plus other related events, and the 2017 Summer Internship programme sharing section organized by the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ).


Some facilities temporarily closed

Due to Typhoon Hato some facilities have been temporarily closed to the public until further notice (per news on 1st September). These include the Macao Cultural Centre, Macao Museum of Art, The Handover Gifts Museum of Macao, Guia Fortress, Guia Chapel, Guia Military Tunnels, No. 80, Rua das Estalagens, Exhibition Room of Master Lu Ban's Woodcraft Works, Red Market Library, Patane Library, Coloane Library, Mobile Library, Wong Ieng Kuan Library in Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Municipal Park, Wong Ieng Kuan Library in Luís de Camões Garden, Mount Fortress Garden, Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre, Heritage Exhibition of a Traditional Pawnshop Business and Navy Yard No. 1.
