Macao SAR bestows Medal of Merit for Tourism

The presentation ceremony of decorations, medals and Certificates of Merit awarded for 2017 by the Macao SAR is scheduled for the middle of this month, following the announcement of the awardees last 19th December. The former first Commissioner of the Macao SAR Customs Service, Choi Lai Hang, receives the Decoration of Honour - Golden Lotus. Registered auditor and chairman of Associação Budista Soka Gakkai Internacional de Macau, Lei Loi Tak, and vice chairman of The Macao Chamber of Commerce, Vong Kok Seng, will receive the Decoration of Honour - Silver Lotus. Chairman and CEO of Melco International and Melco Resorts & Entertainment, Lawrence Ho Yau Lung, founder of G&L Group Luís Lui, and chairman of the Macau Exchange Association of World Renowned Chinese Culinary Chefs and Connoisseurs, Lam Chan Kuok, will receive the Medal of Merit - Tourism.

The awards for Decoration of Honour include the Decoration of Honour - Grand Lotus, the Decoration of Honour - Golden Lotus, and the Decoration of Honour - Silver Lotus. These awards are for individuals or entities that have made outstanding contributions to the image and reputation of the MSAR. Seven types of Medal of Merit are to be awarded, embracing the professions, industry and commerce, tourism, education, culture, philanthropy and sport. Each of the awards in these categories is for individuals or entities that have made major or excellent contributions to their respective fields.

Lawrence Ho Yau Lung, Luís Lui and Lam Chan Kuok received the Medal of Merit - Tourism last year. Lawrence Ho Yau Lung has successfully transformed his business into a leisure and entertainment complex. He is also a member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, All-China Youth Federation, Standing Committee Members of the Macao Chamber of Commerce, and member of various other societies.

Luís Lui founded G&L group in 2001 and Hou Kong Daily in 2008. He strongly supports and promotes local tourism culture, traditional festivities, and mega events. Lui was also a member of the second, third, and fourth Chief Executive Elections committee, a member of the Macau Grand Prix Committee and Tourism Development Committee, and member of various other societies.

Lam Chan Kuok is Chairman of the Macau Exchange Association of World Renowned Chinese Culinary Chefs and Macau Cuisine Association, and a chef with 50 years of experience. He was recognised with a Lifetime Award by the China Cuisine Association in 2014. Lam has also led a delegation of Macao chefs to participate in and win first place in an international Chinese cuisine cooking competition. He has organized various international cooking competitions and charities. Lam also actively nurtures local cooking talent thus helping shape Macao's image.

The recipients of the Medal of Merit comprise João Augusto Gonçalves Gil de Oliveira, Zhao Guoqiang, Iau Kam Hoi and He Haiming, who will receive the Medal of Merit - Professions; Tai Fung Bank, Kee Kwan Motor Road Co., Ltd. (Estrada para Veículos Ki-Kuan, Limitada) and Fong Son Kin will receive the Medal of Merit - Industry and Commerce; Lei Heong Iok, Vong Chuk Kwan and Lo Sio Va will receive the Medal of Merit - Education; Pen of Macau, João Vicente Botelho Guedes, Chou Cheong Hong and Poon Kam Ling will receive the Medal of Merit - Culture; the Social Welfare Bureau and Fu Hong Society of Macau will receive the Medal of Merit - Philanthropy; while the Macao Dragon and Lion Dance Team, Macau Karate-do Federation and Eduardo Armando de Jesus Júnior will receive the Medal of Merit - Sports.
