Sino-Lusophone Cultural Exchange Centre Highlight of Cultural Affairs Bureau Projects for 2018

The Macao SAR Government Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) announced a series of important projects for 2018 on 18th January, one of which is the establishment of a Sino-Lusophone Cultural Exchange Centre. In tandem with the project, IC plans to launch a Cultural Ministerial Conference; Cultural Forum; Cultural Festival of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries; and Subsidy Programme for Cultural and Artisitic Activities of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.

With Chapas Sínicas successfully inscribed on UNESCO's Memory of the World Register, IC is preparing to organize a joint exhibition in related areas of Chapas Sínicas, issuing commemorative stamps in Macao and Lisbon in 2018 and 2019. A series of promotional activities will be organized to demonstrate the importance of Macao's historic documents.

With regard to heritage protection, IC will conduct public consultations on the Safeguard and Management Plan of the Historic Centre of Macao; Heritage Classification of the Lai Chi Vun Shipyards Area; 2nd Group of Proposed Property Classification of Macao; and Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage. IC will also organize a Cultural Heritage Guard Team, and the Little Little Docent programme to enhance participation and knowledge of heritage protection among the city's teenagers. An open tender for 'New Macao Central Library Project - Civil Design' will be conducted in the first quarter of this year.

IC will also co-organize a series of large-scale visual art exhibitions with some groups, including a Painting Exhibition by Marc Chagall in the 29th Macao Arts Festival; The Russian Painting Exhibition; Calligraphy and Painting of Wu Li from the Palace Museum and Shanghai Museum; Nanhai No. 1 Underwater Archaeological Relics Exhibition; Activities of the 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Macao Museum; and so forth.

Meanwhile, to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Tap Siac Craft Market, IC will organize several tenth anniversary projects designed to attract local artists, groups and associations. Programme activities will include interactive installations, participation in stage performances, workshops; and other events. IC will also promote the export of local cultural publications and assist the distribution of these publications in Hong Kong and overseas markets.


Public consultations on 'Safeguard and Management Plan of the Historic Centre of Macao' and 'Heritage Classification of Lai Chi Vun Shipyards Area'

In order to protect the Historic Centre of Macao, and further exercise Article 51 of the Cultural Heritage Protection Law, the Macao SAR Government Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) has adopted a phased compilation of the Safeguard and Management Plan of the Historic Centre of Macao. Four public consultations, representing phase two, will be initiated until 20th March, following the first one held on 20th January.

Moreover, according to Article 22 of the Cultural Heritage Protection Law, IC promulgated a heritage classification for the Lai Chi Vun Shipyards Area on 15th December, 2017. According to Article 24 of the law, IC is also holding three public consultations on the classification, the first of which was on 22nd January, with the last scheduled for 22nd March.
