The Macao SAR Government Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) has launched Lifestyle in 'Pátios' and 'Becos' - a brand new themed route added to 'Taking a Walk through the Streets of Macao' - with three street information boards now erected en route to deepen walkers' understanding of the past and unique characteristics of Macao's lanes and alleys.

Lifestyle in 'Pátios' and 'Becos' won the 2014 'Taking a Walk through the Streets of Macao' Contest for Cultural Walk Itinerary Design, with the Portuguese words 'Pátios' and 'Becos' describing the smallest local thoroughfares that currently exist in Macao, where local residents used to live, work, and communicate with their neighbours between the passageways, maintaining close contact and connection with one another.

Venues included in this new themed route are Pátio das Seis Casas; Pátio dos Cules; Beco da Felicidade; Beco da Rosa; Pátio da Eterna Felicidade; and Pátio do Espinho, to let walkers experience the past of Macao.

IACM has also set up new street information boards in Senado Square, Avenida do Infante D. Henrique near BCM Bank and Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro (San Ma Lou), and the crossroads in Rua dos Mercadores to introduce Leal Senado Building, Riviera Hotel (now Nam Tung Commercial Building), Central Hotel (now New Central Hotel), and Victoria Theatre (now Edificio Tai Fung). The new street information boards introduce the past and present of the street and the buildings via comparison of an old street photo and a new street photo, allowing the public to understand the changes that have taken place in those streets.

The new street boards provide information in Chinese, Portuguese and English, with QR code on the boards, too. Visitors may connect to the Macao Streets Homepage or access more streets or public service information by scanning the QR code to experience the changes of Macao.
