Macao Museum Organizes Slew of Activities for 20th Anniversary
On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Macao Museum, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the Museum has specially organized a series of rich activities, including thematic exhibitions, a series of cultural lectures, games related to the Macao Museum, exchange programmes for middle school students with the Shenzhen Museum, the publication of research and studies plus other promotional and educational activities.
In tandem with cultural exchanges between the countries and regions along the 'Belt and Road' launched by the Central Government and within the co-operation framework between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, the Macao Museum and the Maritime Silk Road Museum of Guangdong proudly present 'Treasure from the Deep Sea - Exhibition of Underwater Archaeological Relics of the Nanhai No. 1', which runs until 31st July this year.
The Macao Museum has also organized several workshops for the creation of Lego miniature ships in June and July via the creation of a Lego model of the Nanhai No. 1. In addition, an escape game will be set up at the Mount Fortress Gallery, encouraging participants to experience heritage protection and underwater archaeological excavations. During the exhibition period, cultural tours to the Nanhai No. 1 will also be held.
'Games at the Macao Museum' is one of the highlights of the Museum's 20th anniversary activities. On 19th May, several outreach activities will be held at the Macao Museum from 4:00pm to 9:00pm, including workshops, guided tours for thematic exhibitions, theatre sessions, restoration workshops, booth games and book sales, among others, offering a different museum experience to the public of all ages.
This year, the Museum will hold regular cultural lectures focused on underwater archaeology and the Silk Route, religious beliefs and life experiences of Macao residents, the Maritime Silk Route and the discovery of the maritime route to Macao by the Portuguese. The Museum is also committed to holding regular promotional activity 'A Voyage to the Past - Macao History', which invites scholars to share with residents and visitors stories related to Macao's historical sites in a relaxed and entertaining manner.
In addition, the Macao Museum has organized a 'Catalogue Exhibition in Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of Macao Museum' - currently running in the Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre until 30th August - showcasing 23 catalogues featuring past and present exhibitions held by the Macao Museum. The in-house collections revolve around special themes arranged in three sections - 'Macao Celebrities and Regional Co-operation'; 'Exchanges between China and Foreign Countries'; and 'Traditional Chinese Culture'. Through this retrospective exhibition and past cultural exchanges, the organiser hopes to enhance the quality of the catalogues published by the Macao Museum.
