Fujian and Macao Promote Multi-destination Tourism in Australia
The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the Fujian Provincial Tourism Development Commission partnered up to promote multi-destination tourism in Melbourne and Sydney from 16th to 18th April, encouraging visitation to Fujian and Macao on one trip through the destination promotions and dinners held.
In addition, MGTO met with the leaders of overseas Chinese organizations from the two cities, besides running a 'Taste of Macao' pop-up restaurant and engaging in dialogue with the Australian Film Institute in Sydney, leveraging different means to showcase the myriad experiences offered by Macao as a travel destination, gastronomic scene and city of glamorous events.
Fujian and Macao destinations promotions in Melbourne and Sydney
MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes plus Chief of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Division of the Fujian Provincial Tourism Development Commission, Huang Zeming, led delegations from the tourism authorities of both places for 'The Maritime Silk Road' Destinations Promotions and Dinners in Melbourne and Sydney on 16th and 18th April, respectively, attended by 190 representatives from the local tourism industry, who were introduced to the latest developments of the tourism industry in Fujian and Macao.
Speaking at the occasion, MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes highlighted that Macao had received close to 90 thousand visitors from Australia last year, indicating a myriad of opportunities in outbound travel. Meanwhile, she strongly asserted that the abundant and diverse tourism resources of Fujian and Macao, together with Xiamen Airlines' services from Melbourne and Sydney, can help attract even more Australians to experience the best of both destinations on a single trip.
Huang Zeming, Head of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Division of the Fujian Provincial Tourism Development Commission, said that in recent years the Fujian Provincial Tourism Development Commission has promoted multi-destination travel routes to Fujian and Macao together with MGTO in countries along the Belt and Road. Direct flights between Xiamen and Australia, he added, can significantly facilitate visitation between the two places, strengthen relations between the two sides and further promote multi-destination travel to Fujian and Macao.
In addition, MGTO hosted banquets for some 40 leaders of overseas Chinese organizations and chambers of commerce in Melbourne and Sydney on 16th and 17th April. Providing guests with an update on the latest tourism developments in Macao during the banquets, the Macao Government Tourism Office sought to widen the coverage of the promotion's effect via their extensive network of overseas Chinese in both cities.
Pop-up restaurant promotes Macao Year of Gastronomy; MGTO meet with Australian Film Institute
Furthermore, MGTO ran a 'Taste of Macao' pop-up restaurant in Sydney. For five days in a row starting 18th April, the restaurant served delicacies with complimentary Macao signature delights to highlight the Macao Year of Gastronomy. Passers-by could enjoy a taste of Macao's famous Portuguese egg tarts, pork chop buns and African chicken prepared by the pop-up restaurant at four locations in turn - First Fleet Park at Circular Quay, Henry Deane Plaza at Central Station, Spring Street at Chatswood, and Manly Wharf.
On 19th April, MGTO Director Senna Fernandes and her team met with the Honourable George Souris (former New South Wales Minister for Tourism and Major Events), Board member of the Australian Film Institute. With the Institute boasting a rich experience of presenting TV and film awards and staging awards ceremonies, MGTO capitalized on the opportunity to introduce the International Film Festival & Awards．Macao and exchange perspectives on organizing film festivals with the Institute.
