Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM) held its Annual General Assembly Ordinary Meeting on 29th March, during which CAM proposed new targets of 7.38 million passenger traffic, 60 thousand flight movements, 39 thousand tonnes of cargo and 3170 business jet movements in 2018.

The opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao (HKZM) Bridge will make it easier for people to travel, it was opined, while CAM introduced a number of international airline companies, saying it expects to launch new scheduled flights between Macao and Moscow from 10th May, and between Macao and Sabah in mid-May or early June.

With the HKZM Bridge providing transportation opportunities for passengers, more airline companies will begin to launch cyclical charter services, CAM believes, creating an increasing number of mid-long haul charter flights, promoting routes with airlines and enhancing regional co-operation to attract overseas visitors.

According to the latest figures from CAM, Macau International Airport (MIA) achieved a total income of MOP$4.95 billion in 2017, up 9.6 per cent year-on-year. Meanwhile, MIA connects Macao with 47 destinations in Mainland China, the Taiwan region, Southeast Asia and other areas, respectively accounting for 36 per cent, 22 per cent and 42 per cent of the total passenger volume of the airport.

Regular air freight flights of Macao-Kuala Lumpur and Macao-Sydney - launched in the first quarter of 2018 - represent a new breakthrough in MIA cargo business. MIA expected to have more development opportunities for air freight in the future, with regular air freight services to be launched between Macao and Europe, laying a solid foundation for the opening of the HKZM Bridge.
