Mid-August Deadline for Macao Green Hotel Awards Application

The hotel industry is encouraged to participate in the 12^th edition of the Macao Green Hotel Awards, with submission of applications invited from 1^st July to 16^th August. The Platinum Award will continue to be the highest accolade awarded.

Since the launch of the Macao Green Hotel Awards in 2007 the number of prize-winning hotels has increased to 51 from 8. All awarded hotels actively implement environmental protection measures, with the success of the programme dramatically illustrated by the waste of all hotel rooms reduced by more than 30 per cent, recyclable waste increased to some 200 thousand tons, and recycled kitchen waste exceeding 3400 tons. In addition, awarded hotels have achieved significant success in reducing water usage, saving energy and participating in environmental protection training.

In order to further enhance environmental protection measures throughout the hotel industry, last year the 11^th edition of the Macao Green Hotel Awards inaugurated the Platinum Award for the first time. All awarded hotels were required to achieve the following high standards; namely, reduction of 10 per cent or more of waste from each occupied room; monitoring of dispersal and recycling of kitchen waste; enactment of waste and recycling measurement mechanism; installation of parking spaces and charging plugs for electric vehicles, and so forth.

The Venetian Macao ticked all the boxes with an excellent performance to win the first-ever Platinum Award, with the presentation ceremony held on 22^nd June, 2018.
