Air Macau launched direct flights between Macao and Qingdao on 30th August, departing every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The flights take off from Macao to Qingdao at 3:20pm, while flights from Qingdao to Macao depart at 7:35pm. Total flight duration is estimated to be three hours. The flights also mark the first direct flight between Macao and Shandong Province.

The president of the Executive Committee and Chief Executive Officer of Air Macau Company Limited, Chen Hong, remarked at the inaugural flight ceremony that Qingdao is a National Famous Historical and Cultural City featuring natural wonders like Laoshan and Mashan stone forest plus rich cultural resources such as Badaguan. It is also a modern and industrialised coastal city.

Shandong Province enjoys active economic growth, and maintains close economic exchanges with Macao. In 2017, the number of visitors from Shandong Province to Macao exceeded 300 thousand, up 26.3 per cent compared to the previous year, and the highest growth rate compared to other provinces in China.

Macao and Qingdao are two important core cities on the Belt and Road and Maritime Silk Road, with the cities having huge potential for co-operation. Chen Hong observed that the new flight route between Qingdao and Macao will deepen the co-operation of both sides in the field of tourism, economic and cultural exchange.

MIA Introduce New Boarding Gates

In 2018, over 8 million passengers are estimated to have used Macau International Airport (MIA). To cater to its traffic growth, the Airport has undergone a series of expansion projects and facility enhancements over the last few years. The north area of the Terminal, opened to passengers this year, serves as a major highlight of MIA's short term expansion plan. With six new boarding gates now available, MIA added a series of new codes to all its boarding gates at the passenger terminal on 22nd August.
