The ‘Legal Regime of Passenger Transport in Light Automobiles’ comes into effect on 3rd June. New rules require all taxis install GPS, video and audio recording equipment approved by the Macao SAR Government Transport Bureau (DSAT) in the cab. Signs and indications are also required to be prominently displayed in order to alert passengers that video and audio recording equipment has been installed.

The new regime also allows taxi drivers to drive to the nearest legal stopping area if  passengers request being dropped off in an illegal stopping area, while new obligations also require taxi drivers to assist passengers place and extract luggage from the boot, and provide assistance to passengers with special needs to board and alight.

In order to deepen the understanding of the regime for the public and taxi industry, DSAT has published four infographics titled ‘Introduction’, ‘Taxi Equipment’, ‘Passengers’ and ‘Taxi Driver’ addressing topics such as access, management, supervision and sanctioning of activity, installation and confidentiality of the recording equipment, legal rights of passengers and taxi drivers plus conduct and related penalties.

Infographics are available on the DSAT website at: www.dsat.gov.mo, Public Security Police Force website: www.fsm.gov.mo, and Legal Affairs Bureau website: www.dsaj.gov.mo for public viewing and download.
