Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) has commissioned a study on the feasibility of imposing a tourist tax on visitors to Macao, which includes case analysis and questionnaire surveys to be conducted among residents, visitors and members of the travel trade. The public opinion poll will extend for a month to 20th June.

With regard to the study MGTO has designed an online questionnaire - available in Traditional/Simplified Chinese, Portuguese and English - to learn residents’ views and preferences on the proposed tax on tourists. Macao residents are encouraged to express their opinions via the Macao Tourism Industry Net website on http://industry.macaotourism.gov.mo or by using the direct link to the questionnaire at http://www.macaotourism.gov.mo/r/en/ottr (preferred language can be chosen for completing questionnaire).

After filling out and submitting the questionnaire each participant will be notified by MGTO of the details for obtaining a souvenir once the opinion poll concludes.

As well as collecting residents’ opinions via an online questionnaire, MGTO will distribute questionnaires to members of the travel trade in addition to conducting a face-to-face survey of visitors upon their departure from various ports in Macao in order to collect opinions from a more diverse base to serve as a significant reference for the study.
