To celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) staged a special Mapping Show titled ‘Glorious Splendour in Celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China’ in the atmospheric Ruins of St. Paul’s on three consecutive nights from 29th September to 1st October, sharing the joy engendered by this momentous occasion with residents and visitors alike.

Presented on the night of 29th September from 8:00pm to 10:00pm, and on 30th September and 1st October from 7:00pm to 10:00pm - and lasting some 5 minutes per ‘screening’ - the Mapping Show took place every 15 minutes, comprising 1) ‘Macao Residents United in Celebration’ and 2) ‘Joyful and Auspicious! Jointly Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China!’

Macao Residents United in Celebration

The audience viewed the images of various local architectural landmarks festooned with national flags fluttering amid scenes of local streets and lanes projected upon the Ruins of St. Paul’s. The Guia Fortress, one of Macao’s most imposing edifices, came under the spotlight at the conclusion of the show, while a ray of dazzling light symbolised the country’s guidance for Macao as the city sets sail for the future.

Erecting a decorative archway for National Day celebrations is part of Macao’s local colour, thus using projection mapping the show reflected the splendour of a glittering decorative archway and the city’s joyous festive culture, with happiness expressed in the phrase: ‘Welcome to Macao, join us in Celebrating National Day’, coupled with a golden lotus blossom. The number ‘20’ also appeared in order to represent the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region.

Joyful and auspicious! Jointly Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China!

In this clip, auspicious red lanterns and clouds slowly arise, symbolically bestowing prosperity and peace upon the country and its people as a carp swims through green rivers and bamboo groves to leap over the dragon gate, against a jubilant and harmonious backdrop teeming with gorgeous blooms of peony, the national flower.

The structural image of Tiananmen projected upon the Ruins of St. Paul’s was followed by the solemn appearance of the components of the national emblem, and the lively spectacle of splendid fireworks celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China. As the video ending neared, the symbol for the celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China appeared in tandem with congratulatory words intoning ‘Glorious Splendour in Celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China’.

The show spectacularly culminated in epic music sure to tug at the heartstrings of spectators of the dual celebrations.
