MGTO, Health Bureau inspect bars, nightclubs and similar businesses, for compliance with disease-control measures

Representatives respectively from the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the Health Bureau conducted on 29 February joint inspections of bars, nightclubs and other similar businesses, ahead of their scheduled reopening from 2 March onward.

The inspections aimed to ensure businesses were compliant with new disease-control guidelines, in order to prevent the spread locally of the COVID-19 virus.

The new guidelines were sent by MGTO to business owners. They were also made available online by MGTO and the Health Bureau.

As part of public health measures to control the spread in Macao of COVID-19, the Macao SAR Government ordered the suspension of operations at various types of entertainment facilities from 5 February until 1 March inclusive. The facilities covered by the suspension order included businesses under the supervision of MGTO, such as bars, nightclubs, karaoke lounges and health clubs.

The temporary closure order was meant to reduce the potential for close physical contact between members of the public, and thus to reduce the chances of spreading the COVID-19 virus.

MGTO officials will continue to conduct inspections of the now-reopening facilities, in order to ensure they remain compliant with all relevant disease-control measures.
