Applications and assessments for the Quality Tourism Services Accreditation Scheme (QTSAS) will not take place this year because of the coronavirus pandemic. All enterprises in the catering, travel agency and retailing industries with QTSAS accreditation in 2019 will retain their accreditation for 2020.
The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) runs the QTSAS. The Macao SAR Government Municipal Affairs Bureau, Consumer Council, Macao Institute for Tourism Studies, Macau Hotel Association, United Association of Food and Beverage Merchants of Macao, Association of Macau Small and Medium Enterprises of Catering, Macau Travel Agency Association, Travel Industry Council of Macau and Association of Macao Tourist Agents support the scheme.
The scheme began in 2014 and has since given QTSAS “Star Merchant Awards” to 281 catering businesses and 40 travel agencies. In 2019, MGTO and the Consumer Council jointly gave QTSAS “Star Merchant Awards” to 166 shops in Macao in selected sectors, such as clothing and apparel, ornaments, tourism, souvenir food products, and food and beverage.
The purpose of the QTSAS is to set standards for the quality of service provided by enterprises that serve tourists, and to help improve service culture. The scheme also recognises – via the QTSAS “Service Star Awards” – merchants and practitioners who provide outstanding service and implement excellent service management in the tourism industry. The QTSAS scheme is recognised throughout the tourism industry.
