5th International Film Festival & Awards.Macao to take place between 3 and 8 December 2020
IFFAM takes part again in Fantastic 7 initiative in Cannes

The Organising Committee of the International Film Festival & Awards.Macao (IFFAM) has announced that the dates for the fifth edition of the annual event have been set as 3 to 8 December, 2020. Industry professionals interested in taking part in this year’s IFFAM can submit their film entries online at iffamacao.com/submissions.

The festival will present a full programme of feature-length and short films. In a year which has seen the world battle the COVID-19 pandemic, the theme of the event will be “A Celebration Of Life & The Big Screen”. A specially-curated section will be devoted to a selection of films that define the out-of-home “big-screen” experience.

The Director of Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and President of the Organising Committee of the International Film Festival & Awards.Macao, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes stated: “The coronavirus pneumonia pandemic has created a sweeping global impact and posed new barriers among people. Film, however, possesses the invincible power to transcend such barriers and continues to foster human connections around the world.”

She added: “In these times of adversity, our hope is kindled as the film industry never ceases moving forward with perseverance, like film reels that keep rolling. Bringing new film productions into the cinematic world, film-makers weave boundless possibilities out of the impossible. At this moment, the IFFAM Organising Committee embraces a positive outlook for the future and actively gears up for the 5th International Film Festival & Awards.Macao to be unveiled this December. We look forward to sharing with all of you the fruits of hard work from worldwide film-makers and contribute to steering the film industry forward and building a brighter future together.”

IFFAM artistic director Mike Goodridge said: “It has been heartbreaking to see cinemas around the world closed this year, so IFFAM would like to celebrate the return to cinemas and the joy of this beautiful communal experience.”

He added: “There is nothing quite like sitting in the dark and sharing a movie with strangers, laughing together, crying together, screaming together. We can’t wait to see Macao audiences getting back into theatres and to bring an exhilarating programme of film and guests to them in December.”

IFFAM once again become a co-op film festival of Fantastic 7

Fantastic 7, a project of “Festival de Cannes” launched last year, was once again jointly participated by seven international film festivals this year, including IFFAM.  During the Cannes Film Market (Marché du Film), each participating entity showcased a project to film industry professionals from around the globe.  The aim is to foster emerging talents and connect them with potential business partners by creating a privileged space for dialogue and exchange.  This year, Fantastic 7 has taken place online during 22 to 26 June. The Macao start-up project “Foreign Cop” and 6 other projects endorsed by each festival has been presented during a pitching session held on 24 June at the Marché du Film Online. Furthermore, juries and professionals interested in the projects organized meetings with project creators in speed meetings on 26 June.
