Special offers by hotels and resorts encourage Macao locals to holiday at home

A number of hotels and resorts in Macao is putting forward offerings that cater directly to Macao residents

Macao’s hotels and resorts have banded together to offer tempting summer staycation deals while the normal rhythm of travel and tourism has been interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Locals are being invited – via reduced room rates, drink and dining offers, early check-in and late check-out, inclusive activities and optional upgrades – to take advantage of Macao’s world-class tourist infrastructure.

The offers help the industry build a new dimension to its offering by catering directly to Macao residents.

Sofitel Macao at Ponte 16 is one of the hotels making available a staycation package. It includes a one-night stay, dining and breakfast for two. The package is available until 31 July and includes complimentary stay for one child under 12 years old when sharing a room with the parents.

Resort operator Melco Resorts and Entertainment Ltd has brought back its “Melco Loves Locals” campaign for Macao residents. Until the end of July, people with a Macao ID can enjoy discounts at a number of outlets at the firm’s properties. Melco Resorts has also been offering discounted room rates at selected hotels for locals wanting to enjoy a staycation.

MGM China Holdings Ltd, operator of the MGM Macau and MGM Cotai properties, introduced in May a set of limited-time staycation offers for Macao residents. It included in-room breakfast for two and additional food and beverage credit to be enjoyed during a stay.

Four Seasons Hotel Macao, Cotai Strip has launched several bonus deals and offerings with an eye on locals. Its “Restart Your Time With Four Seasons” package, running until 31 August, makes available to guests hotel credit equal to 50 percent of their respective daily room rate, applicable towards hotel dining and spa treatments. The package includes a family picnic brunch experience in the hotel’s garden or in its poolside restaurant.

The Parisian Macao integrated resort, by Sands China Ltd, has a “Summer Fun Hotel Package” exclusive offer for Macao residents and people working in Macao. It is available until 31 August, and includes accommodation for two (plus one child up to 12 years old), a dining voucher and complimentary entertainment passes offering access to several attractions and experiences at the resort.

The Grand Coloane Resort and sister property Grand Lapa, Macau are other local hotel properties offering discounted room rates and early bird specials targeting locals.

Another example is an offer from Mandarin Oriental, Macau: it has a staycation package valid until March next year that features hotel credit, spa treatment for two, early check-in and late check-out, and other additional benefits for members of the Mandarin Oriental loyalty programme.
