National Day fireworks display to light up skies over Macao, Zhuhai

The National Day fireworks display is coordinated by the Macao Government Tourism Office and the Administration Committee of Hengqin New Area, Zhuhai

The “Full Moon National Day Fireworks Celebration by Macao and Hengqin” will light up the skies above the sea in front of the Macau Tower on 1 October, in an approximately 20-minute show to celebrate the National Day of the People’s Republic of China.

The show will begin with a six-minute performance entitled “Meet in Macao”, delivered by pyrotechnics launched to the sky. Next up is an eight-minute pyrotechnic display called “Macao Emotions”. A grand finale of a six-minute combination of fireworks and lasers in an extravaganza dubbed “Sounds of Macao and Hengqin” perfectly wraps up the fireworks celebration. Multiple songs from the album “Love in Hengqin and Macao” will run through the entire show, working in sync with the different fireworks of each chapter.

The firework show is coordinated by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the Administration Committee of Hengqin New Area, Zhuhai. Macao and Zhuhai worked on another joint endeavour last December, putting on the biggest fireworks display yet seen in the region to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao SAR. To enhance spectator’s experience with a more fascinating light and sound spectacular, 4 sets of sound systems will be placed on the Macao Peninsula and Taipa in streaming synchronized background music. In addition, TDM Radio Macau Chinese Channel (FM100.7) will also live broadcast the soundtrack.

Jointly staging the National Day fireworks display is meant to spur coordinated tourism development in Macao and Zhuhai, and contribute to making the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area a world-class travel destination.

The National Day fireworks display is traditionally part of the annual Macao International Fireworks Display Contest. But travel restrictions to curb the COVID-19 pandemic caused the cancellation of the 2020 contest.
