Second edition of “Capture Macao” calls for images highlighting city’s uniqueness

The second “Capture Macao” photography-sharing activity is under way. The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) event calls for individuals to submit original photographic work showing the city’s unique features, with the public deciding their favourites in an online vote.

Macao locals and visitors are invited to take a snapshot of a Macao scene, or a picture illustrating the city’s gastronomy or culture. Suggested themes include the so-called “Macao New Eight Scenic Spots”, sights of the city’s UNESCO-listed World Heritage, or Macanese gastronomy. Participants should add a caption or quotation to their photography and submit the image, along with their personal details, to the MGTO WeChat Mini Program (影下澳門).

This second event accepts submissions in four rounds, with MGTO selecting 12 entries for each round and asking the public to vote via the MGTO WeChat Mini Program. After the submission and voting process for the four rounds is completed, MGTO will select 12 images from among those photographs with the most votes overall, and make them into postcards that will be put on public display and be used also to promote Macao. The postcards will each be accompanied by a quote or caption as suggested by the photographer, and the photographer’s name.

The winning photographers will each be presented with a set of postcards with the winning pictures. The winning photographs will be uploaded to the MGTO image database at the Macao Tourism News plus platform, for use by the media, if suitable.

Macao residents and tourists are welcome to subscribe to MGTO’s account on WeChat (“MGTOweixin”) in order to participate in the activity, either by submitting photographs or by voting for their favourite pictures.

“Capture Macao” takes place from 16 October until 18 December. Details are as below:

 Submission periodVoting period
First roundEndedUntil 6 November
Second roundUntil 8 November11-20 November
Third round9-22 November25 November to 4 December
Fourth round23 November to 6 December9-18 December

Participants can enter more than once in each round of “Capture Macao”. However, only the last picture submitted by an individual in any given round will be considered for selection for voting purposes.

Each participant can have only one of their images reprinted on a postcard. If required, MGTO will consider for reprinting purposes an image submitted by another participant, and which has the next-highest number of votes.

All pictures submitted must be original work. Only basic editing – such as for brightness, contrast or colour saturation adjustment – is allowed.

The first “Capture Macao”, in 2019, drew an enthusiastic response. To see the winning images from last year, or to find out more about this year’s event, log on to the MGTO WeChat Mini Program and subscribe to MGTO’s WeChat account “MGTOweixin”.
