The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) has claimed the award for Best Asia Destination Marketing at the Travel Weekly Asia 2020 Readers’ Choice Awards. The accolade is a recognition of MGTO’s swift response to the COVID-19 pandemic and of the Office’s efforts to remain connected with the Asia-Pacific region’s travel trade.
“We will cherish this award because throughout the year we have not been doing what we used to do,” said MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, who accepted the award on behalf of the Office. “Most of the time we are managing quarantine hotels; a very new challenge and deep learning curve.”
The Travel Weekly Asia Readers’ Choice Awards recognised resilience, leadership and innovation among Asia’s top tourism businesses and industry players. There were 16 awards made across three categories during the ceremony held online on 11 December.
Winners of the awards were determined by the travel trade and public through voting that took place between May and August. Award recipients were assessed on their overall excellence, professionalism, industry initiatives, and efforts in their area of expertise over the previous year.
Travel Weekly Asia was first published in 2002. The regional trade magazine provides market intelligence on tourism and travel to industry professionals and decision makers.
