Macao Highlight Tours add another appealing layer to visitors’ experience

Macao’s travel trade has come together to launch a series of activities that will allow visitors to experience Macao’s profound history, cultural landscape and “tourism+” projects.

The Macao Highlight Tours offer small-sized groups from the city’s major visitor markets the opportunity to have an inspiring, tailor-made experience. The in-depth itineraries are a collaboration between the Macau Travel Agency Association, Association of Macao Tourist Agents and Travel Industry Council of Macau. The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) is helping to promote the tours.

Each of these adventures is devised to deliver the enriched travel experience that sees visitors extend their length of stay and to spend more in Macao, which in turn will stimulate the economy in local communities.

Tailor-made travel

Applications to take a Macao Highlight Tour opened on 18 May, with four different itineraries available, as well as tailor-made experiences. They range from structured tours to bespoke travel, including “Amazing one-day tour with ‘MAK MAK’”, “Explore the history of Macao’s handover and secrets of the Macau Grand Prix”, “Strolling in the Historic Centre of Macao and enjoying enchanting scenery on maritime tour”, “Dive into the beauty of Coloane and explore the ancient architecture of Nossa Senhora Village of Ká-Hó”.

In addition, visitors can opt for private tours along tailor-made itineraries. Travel agencies can arrange a half-day tour around alleys and lanes imbued with local flavour, a green wellness tour, a luxurious shopping tour, and more, depending of visitors’ preferences.

Favourites return

The Macao Highlight Tours will also offer the popular “Private helicopter charter ride”. Interested parties can sign up for the chartered helicopter ride in private tours. Each helicopter can accommodate up to 12 passengers on a single tour.

Small-sized tour groups will operate for each itinerary. The minimum group size is six people for the “Amazing one-day tour with ‘MAK MAK’” and 10 persons for the other itineraries. Transportation services will be arranged for tour participants. Upon sign-up, tour participants can request for tour guide service in Cantonese, Mandarin or English as their preferred language. During the tours, participants can enjoy an interactive experience as they relish the elements offered by their guide.

Industry development

The Macao Highlight Tours are designed to help foster in-depth travel and to steer the tourism development towards greater sustainability and diversification.

About 100 tour guides, and 123 medium-sized coaches and 7-seat vans have registered for the project, which is expected to create new job opportunities and bolster the tourism industry’s recovery.

MGTO will pay close attention to the latest situation of the COVID-19 pandemic while opportunely communicating with the travel trade to request their appropriate arrangements for all the activities in accord with the pandemic prevention guidelines issued by the Macao SAR Government Health Bureau. In case of adverse weather conditions, individuals who have signed up for the tours are advised to contact related tourism businesses and stay tuned to the latest activity arrangements.
