Incubation plan for Macao’s KOL in Tourism now open for applications

The “Incubation Plan for Macao’s KOL in Tourism” is now open for applications

With the aim of encouraging Macao residents and the city’s travel trade to leverage social networks to spotlight Macao as a destination with diverse travel experiences to offer, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) has launched the “Incubation Plan for Macao’s KOL in Tourism”.

The incubator programme for key opinion leaders (KOLs) includes a talent sharing session, content creation training camp and trainee video competition. Applications for “Incubation Plan for Macao’s KOL in Tourism” opened on 24 June.

The plan aims to cultivate talented creators of social media content on cultural tourism and inspire Macao residents and members of the local travel trade to give play to their creativity in promoting the destination on social media, which may draw more visitors and spur a tourism and economic revival.

A kick-off ceremony for the plan will be held at the 9th Macao International Travel (Industry) Expo on 11 July. A talent sharing session themed “The Secret of ‘PQ Cuisine” — Douyin Account with over 10M Followers” will also take place at the ceremony, where a famous gastronomic KOL from the Mainland will share his marketing experience through short videos and live streaming.

The highlights of the Plan include the content creation training camp and the trainee video competition. The training camp will be conducted in August, in which professionals will share with trainees an introduction to Douyin and the experience on the ways to get fans.

Trainees who achieve 75% of attendance are eligible to join the video competition, to produce and release two short videos on Douyin between 15 August and 6 September. Judged on various aspects, including entries’ level of popularity and creativity, ten outstanding creators will be designated as “Macao Travel KOL” and awarded an honorary certificate of “Outstanding Content Creators on Tourism” by MGTO.

The content creation training camp opens to Macao residents aged 18 and above, while tourism industry professionals, especially tour guides, are preferred. The application period started on 24 June and ends on 23 July. No fee is required. The camp will be held for 50 participants in total. Applicants can check out the results posted at www.macaotourism.gov.mo on 28 July.
