MGTO, IAM organise seminar to raise awareness on food safety, environmental hygiene

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the Macao SAR Government Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) organised a “Seminar on Food Safety and Environmental Hygiene” in June for merchants accredited by the Quality Tourism Services Accreditation Scheme (QTSAS).

The special session was co-organised by eight supporting entities of QTSAS and took place at World Trade Center Macau.

The seminar was designed to raise pertinent concerns about food safety, to help boost awareness around food safety issues, and to offer insight into prevention against COVID-19 – so visitors can enjoy a safe travel experience in Macao.

IAM representatives delivered talks on “food safety, hygiene and operation” and “environmental hygiene”. Among the topics the seminar elaborated on were the work of control and prevention efforts against COVID-19, measures during typhoon season, and the proper methods for businesses to handle solid waste.

MGTO Deputy Director Cheng Wai Tong told the event that Macao was developing its work as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy – a glamorous calling card for the city – that is founded on food safety. Through events such as these, Macao works towards a deeper integration in the sphere of “tourism + gastronomy” and enhances its profile as a healthy, safe and quality destination.

The seminar’s target audiences included travel agencies, catering and retail businesses accredited by QTSAS. Attendees were enthusiastic and the event achieved its full quota of about 200 people.

This year, MGTO has organised different themed training sessions, seminars and workshops for tourism industry professionals, engaging more than 360 participants. The Office strives to expand the diversity of online learning opportunities and to encourage self-learning online. Online learning programmes have attracted more than 9,300 views this year.
