New Tour Macao FUN Fair series invites people to check out the city

The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and other public departments are collaborating with local community organisations on a series of activities called “Tour Macao FUN Fair” to help foster diversification of tourism products and attract visitors to see the sights.

The debut activity of the “Tour Macao FUN Fair” series was held last month, with more activities coming in December. The “Creative and Artistic Carnival” market enlivened the Taipa Houses on each Saturday and Sunday in November. More than 20 stalls run by local small- and medium-sized enterprises, as well as cultural and artistic performances, creative workshops and interactive games were part of the fun-filled programme, welcoming visitors into the community for sightseeing and spending.

MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes said at the launch ceremony that the events would bring together elements of “tourism +”, inviting residents and visitors into local communities to explore and spend. The activities are set to not only foster community tourism, but also to support the economy and benefit small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in those districts.

She said it was her hope that the upcoming array of mega events would radiate synergistic effects and attract more visitors to explore local districts in depth, injecting a fresh impetus into the community economy.

The “Tour Macao FUN Fair” continues in December in the front square of Macao Science Center.

The Tour Macao FUN Fair events are colourful activities imbued with a confluence of tourism, trade and commerce, culture and creativity. The events promote Macao’s Distinctive Shops, products from Portuguese-speaking countries as well as cultural and creative products, deepen cross-sector integration of “tourism+”, raise the vitality of local communities and stimulate the economy.
