The administrative regulation No. 43/2021 “Tourism Fund” came into effect on 1st January, 2022. The regulation clarifies that the Tourism Fund is subject to the tutelage of the Secretary for Economy and Finance, including subsidies relating to the training of talent in the area of tourism, and expenses with other activities aimed at boosting the joint development of tourism with other industries in Macao. In addition, it clarifies that the Tourism Fund is no longer responsible for the costs related to the operation of the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies, the administration of the Macau Grand Prix Building, as well as the organisation of the Macau Grand Prix and Macao Dragon Boat Races.
Furthermore, the Law No. 8/2021 on the Operation of Hotel Establishments came into effect on 1st January, 2022. With the new law in force, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) takes a great step forward to optimise relevant procedures within the application of the law and deliver the functions of supervision lawfully. The new law also represents the Office’s efforts to steer hotel establishments towards provision of high-quality tourism services for residents and visitors and ensure Macao’s brand as a safe and quality destination.
