A video created by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), “Sustainable Gastronomy Day 2021 - Preserving Macanese Cuisine” won an award at the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Tourism Video Competition in the category of “Tourism and Decade of Action” of the Asia-Pacific region.
The winning video, which was jointly produced by MGTO and Macao News, was released on Sustainable Gastronomy Day, which marked on 18th June last year. The video features MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Chef of the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies Educational Restaurant Hans Lee Rasmussen, Macanese Chefs Florita Alves and Otilia Novo, as well as students aspiring to become chefs, who share their views on sustainable gastronomy and on how to keep Macanese cuisine relevant in the video. In order to promote Macanese cuisine and present the concept of tourism + gastronomy”, MGTO also recently released the latest food video that invited the Macanese chef, Ana Manhão Sou, to share her insights on Macanese and Portuguese cuisines and the origin of some signature dishes. Macao was designated as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy on 31st October 2017, and Macanese gastronomy was added to 5th National List of Representative Items of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of China last June.
