The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the city’s tourism industry received one Grand Award and three Gold Awards at the PATA Gold Awards 2022, which was organised by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA). MGTO’s Marketing Campaign (National-Asia) PATA Gold Award was for its “Macao Week” mega roadshow on the Mainland which last year successfully attracted around 1.9 million visitors to its stops in five Mainland cities. Around 560 million online visitors also tuned into the campaign which stimulated a total tourism expenditure of MOP341 million.
In addition to MGTO’s triumph, Wynn Macau was awarded this year’s PATA Grand Award in Sustainability and Social Responsibility for its “Wynn Sustainable Initiatives”, which are a number of environmental measures the integrated resort has taken over the past few years to help with, for instance, reducing plastic waste and its carbon footprint. The Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) received the Human Capital Development Initiative PATA Gold Award for its “decade of effort in nurturing entrepreneurs” and Sands China’s “City of Gourmet - Youth Development and Integration Programme” earned another PATA Gold Award, this time in the Youth Empowerment Initiative category.
Gold Award winners at the PATA Gold Awards 2022
The PATA Gold Awards 2022 received a total of 136 entries from 56 organisations and individuals worldwide, including six from Macao. The winners of the total of 25 awards distributed this year were selected by 12 independent judges from around the world. The live online awards ceremony was held on 7th October, with MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes joining PATA Chief Executive Officer Liz Ortiguera to reveal the award winners.
The PATA Gold Awards aim to set standards for excellence and innovation in the tourism industry across the Asia-Pacific. MGTO supports the awards since 1995, as a contribution to help foster a sustainable tourism industry in the region. For decades, PATA and its organised events have been a significant platform for Macao to connect with the global travel trade and raise its destination profile in the world.
