Forbes Travel Guide has named Macao as the world capital of five-star dining for 2020 with more top-ranked restaurants than anywhere else. Macao has once again claimed the honour of having the most five-star dining establishments, repeating the city’s star-lit performance in recent years.

The city also has maintained its dominance worldwide in the spa category and remains a leading Asian destination for five-star hospitality, according to Forbes Travel Guide.

There are six debutants among the 23 Macao winners of the top Forbes Travel Guide Star Awards for restaurants in 2020.

The new winners are Lai Heen, the highest Chinese restaurant in Macao, perched on the 51st floor of The Ritz-Carlton, Macau hotel; the SW Steakhouse at Wynn Palace, where diners are entertained by a live theatrical show; The 8 at the Grand Lisboa Hotel which serves 40 types of dim sum and wines from more than 17,000 labels; and Ying, a Cantonese restaurant with great views of the Macao Peninsula and the Macau Tower from the 11th floor of the Altira Macau hotel. The futuristic-looking Morpheus hotel contains not one but two new five-star honourees: Alain Ducasse at Morpheus, which serves elevated French fare; and Yí, where tasting menus allow diners to sample Chinese regional food.

Spa feel-good factor, stellar hotel stays

In the spa category, Macao once again maintains its dominance. Five of the 24 spas worldwide that won five-star awards for the first time in 2020 are in Macao: Morpheus Spa, The Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Macao Cotai Strip, The Spa at Grand Lisboa, and the Tria spas in the MGM Cotai and MGM Macau hotels.

Plenty of the hotels in Macao are winners of 2020 Forbes Travel Guide Star Awards. The city is a leading Asian destination for five-star luxury stays, according to Forbes.

The Macao hotels holding five-star awards are: Altira Macau; Banyan Tree Macau; Encore Macau; Four Seasons Hotel Macao Cotai Strip; Grand Lisboa Hotel; Mandarin Oriental, Macau; MGM Macau; Morpheus; Nüwa Macau; The Ritz-Carlton, Macau; Star Tower at Studio City Macau; Wynn Macau; and Wynn Palace.
