Macao Orchestra, Macao Chinese Orchestra resume performances

The Macao Orchestra and Macao Chinese Orchestra are back and performing, although some of their scheduled performances have been cancelled because performers are unable to visit Macao due to COVID-19 precautions and travel restrictions.

The comeback events took place in July and were free, with more scheduled for August. The Macao Orchestra staged the performance “Classical Express – Back for Fun” at the Dom Pedro V Theatre on 18 July, followed by two recitals of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 at the Macao Cultural Centre on 25 July. The Macao Chinese Orchestra held the performance “A Night of Chinese Music Classics” on 26 July, at the Macao Cultural Centre.

Both orchestras also resumed outreach activities in July. The two ensembles featured at the “Performances in the sphere of the Insightful Cultural Excursion in the Inner Harbour area and Taipa”: the Macao Orchestra at the Taipa Houses and Carmo Fair, and the Macao Chinese Orchestra at the Barra Square on the Macao Peninsula.

There are two performances by the Macao Orchestra planned for August. “Beethoven: An evening of chamber music” takes place at 8 p.m. on 7 August at the Dom Pedro V Theatre and promises to be a musical feast that is a captivating blend of elegance.

“The Encounter of Beethoven and Haydn” is scheduled for 8 p.m. on 13 August at the Grand Auditorium of the Macao Cultural Centre. The performance includes recitals of Haydn’s Symphony No. 104 in D major “London” and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1, under the baton of the Assistant Conductor of Macao Orchestra, Francis Kan.

The Macao Chinese Orchestra has one performance scheduled for August. The free event takes place at Anim’Arte NAM VAN at 7 p.m. on 2 August. It features a number of covers of popular songs, bringing together different music genres.

In addition, the Macao Chinese Orchestra, will hold an outreach activity called “Musical Magic Wand” at the Macao Science Centre on 29 August. More details can be found at the Macao Chinese Orchestra website at http://www.icm.gov.mo/ochm or by calling (853) 8399 6699.
