Macau Grand Prix gets set for green light on 20-22 November

The Macau Grand Prix is back at the Guia Circuit in November

The 67th Macau Grand Prix is to go ahead from 20 to 22 November. With the racing spectacular back at the Guia Circuit, motorsport enthusiasts can look forward to plenty of high-speed thrills.

This year’s roster of races is to be different from past editions, as restrictions in place to help control the COVID-19 pandemic have limited the participation of teams from other locations. In addition, the size of racing squads will be kept to a minimum (for the most up-to-date information and latest news, please visit the Macau Grand Prix official website at www.macau.grandprix.gov.mo).

The organisers expect about 95 racers will take part, with the majority coming from Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao.

After thorough consideration by the SAR Government and a careful COVID-19 risk assessment, the Government decided to go ahead with this year’s competition. The decision was based on the Grand Prix’s significance to the city. The racing event – broadcast annually to Mainland China, Hong Kong and elsewhere, via satellite television and online channels – is an important Macao international tourism and sports brand.

Hosting the Grand Prix as scheduled is an opportunity to promote a positive image of Macao to markets around the globe and to highlight that the pandemic remains under control locally, restoring confidence in Macao as a safe and appealing destination for potential visitors. That can help promote the city’s tourism, hospitality and food and beverage industries.

Hosting the event is also expected to have positive spillover effects for other industries, ranging from the transportation sector to construction, contributing to the city’s overall economic recovery following the impact of the pandemic.

To ensure the event goes ahead safely, the organising committee has a number of back-up plans and the organisers will continue to closely monitor the development of the COVID-19 pandemic, and adjust preventive measures according to guidelines from the health authorities.

According to the regulations, all competitors and support staff must follow strict COVID-19 prevention measures. Participants coming from areas considered “low risk” in Mainland China must present a nucleic acid certificate with a negative result for COVID-19; participants coming from elsewhere must complete a 14-day medical quarantine in addition to presenting a nucleic acid certificate with a negative result for COVID-19.

During the event, everyone will be required to follow the guidelines issued by the Macao health authorities.
