MGTO to hold Annual Press Conference this month

MGTO's 2020 Annual Press Conference

The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) is to host its Annual Press Conference on 10 February. During the event, officials from MGTO will give a summary of last year’s activities and of the 2020 performance of Macao’s tourism sector, which was negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Office will also announce during the press conference the marketing and promotional programmes for 2021.

According to the Macao SAR Government Policy Address for the Fiscal Year 2021 announced last November, the local authorities plan to foster efforts to expedite recovery and development of the tourism industry in order to accelerate economic revitalisation following the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Government has also proposed deepening integration of tourism with other local industries, under a concept known as “Tourism+”. It envisions strengthening links between tourism and, respectively, sports, meetings and exhibitions, cultural and creative industries, and the traditional Chinese medicine sector.

The Government will additionally boost in 2021 promotion of tourism linked to cultural heritage topics. Other goals featured in the Policy Address for the Fiscal Year 2021 include the promotion of quality tourism in general, and of smart tourism.

A review of the Macao Tourism Industry Development Master Plan is to be conducted, in light of the latest situation concerning tourism, to deepen regional cooperation in tourism and discuss issues such as tourism carrying capacity.

A number of existing initiatives will be continued in 2021, including strengthening the development of Macao as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.
