Macao International Dragon Boat Races to be held in mid-June

The Macao International Dragon Boat Races 2021 will be held from 12 to 14 June, and this year’s celebration will include a special, dragon boat-themed family carnival on the first day of the event, centred around the Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre.

The festival gets underway on 12 June with a family carnival, packed with a variety of booth games and themed activities. The following day, 13 June, sees the first day of boat races, with the main event on 14 June. This year’s racing includes the men’s and women’s open categories, and university student small dragon boat race, with participant teams coming from Macao and Mainland China only, as international participants cannot join this year’s races because of travel restrictions linked to the pandemic.

The event is organised by the Macao SAR Government Sports Bureau and the Dragon Boat Association of Macao, China, and co-organised by the Macao SAR Government Municipal Affairs Bureau and Macao SAR Government Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau.

With the boost of a carnival atmosphere adding another layer to the long weekend’s entertainment, the event’s Organising Committee believes visitors will gain an authentic experience of the city’s Dragon Boat Festival. The hope is to establish a unique brand of sports tourism in Macao, and facilitate the diverse development of the city’s sports sector.
