Macao claims four awards at PATA Gold Awards 2021 ceremony

Macao’s tourism industry received a total of four awards on offer at this year’s PATA Gold Awards 2021, organised by Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA).

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) representative office in the United States won a PATA Grand Award, while three Macao tourism operators each received a PATA Gold Award for their corporate initiatives.

MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes joined the new PATA Chief Executive Officer Liz Ortiguera at the presentation ceremony to announce this year’s winners. The event was held online because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

One of two top awards, the PATA Grand Award in Marketing, went to the MGTO representative office in the United States for the “Dream Now and Travel Later” campaign. Launched in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the integrated campaign series tapped into the power of social media to provide educational and dynamic content about Macao to inspire consumers to “Dream Now and Travel Later” to the city.

In the awards for Climate Change Initiatives, Melco Resorts and Entertainment Ltd was awarded a Gold Award for “Above & Beyond – Melco’s Sustainability Strategy”. The company has a strategy to achieve carbon neutrality and zero waste at its resorts by 2030.

A PATA Gold Award for Culture went to Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd. The company’s initiative “Promoting Cultural Tourism through our Foundation” is structured to cultivate an interest in exhibitions, the arts and culture among the next generation.

The city’s third PATA Gold Award, in the category of Youth Empowerment Initiative, went to MGM China Holdings Ltd. Their programme, “MGM Youth Empowerment and Engagement Initiative”, creates learning and educational opportunities for youth and young professionals.

The PATA awards set standards for excellence and innovation in the tourism industry across the Asia-Pacific. MGTO has sponsored the awards for the 26th consecutive year, as part of its contribution to help foster a sustainable tourism industry.

The PATA Gold Awards 2021 received 113 entries from 51 organisations and individuals worldwide, including 12 from Macao. The winners were selected by an 18-person, international independent judging committee.
