MGM properties adopt natural gas to help reduce carbon emissions

MGM Macau will switch to natural gas by 2022 to reduce carbon emissions

MGM China Holdings Ltd will power operations at its Macao properties with natural gas by 2022.

The resort operator has inked an agreement with Nam Kwong Natural Gas Company Ltd to supply gas to the MGM Macau resort. The company’s MGM Cotai resort has utilised gas since its opening in 2018.

MGM China says its Natural Gas Changeover project will result in a reduction of 11% on the company’s annual carbon emissions, which is equivalent to planting 14,000 trees.

MGM China has identified medium and long-term goals. The company plans to achieve green transport operations by switching to electric shuttle buses by 2023, and to conserve 13% of its total energy usage by the end of 2025, as compared to 2019.

In 2018, MGM China abandoned all single-use plastics in takeaway packaging, the equivalent of about 4.5 million pieces of plastic, and has been phasing out water in plastic bottles.
