The Tourism Federation of Cities of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Bay Area held its first General Membership Meeting in Guangzhou on 20th April.

The Director General of Tourism Administration of Guangdong Province, Zeng Yingru, Director General of Tourism Administration of Guangzhou Municipality, Liu Yumei, the Commissioner for Tourism of the Tourism Commission of the Government of the Hong Kong SAR, Joe Wong, and Head of Communication and External Relations Department of Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), Kathy Iong - together with senior tourism officials of the nine Guangdong cities of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing - attended the meeting.

The parties each reported their work progress and submitted suggestions regarding their participation in the Bay Area tourism development and concerted efforts to foster tourism development in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. The member entities reached a consensus to push forward major tasks as follows: organise tourism presentation seminars, design and produce promotional materials, deepen tourism co-operation, and tap into the potential of related polices.

This year, MGTO will engage in and push forward the following key initiatives to foster tourism development in the Bay Area: organise tourism presentation seminars about the Bay Area; conduct strategic promotions; produce a travelogue about the three places; set up joint booths at major travel fairs; arrange familiarisation visits and promote multi-destination tourism products offered by the Bay Area; and so forth.

MGTO will also leverage various platforms for high-level exchange and co-operation to drive new tourism progress in the Bay Area.

The Federation seeks to support each member destination in showcasing their own characteristics and advantages, deepen interchange and widen collaboration, as well as refining collaborative schemes for tourism integration. The core mission is to build a quality living circle ideal for travel and habitation whilst forging the Bay Area into a world-class travel destination.

Initiated by the Tourism Administration of Guangdong Province, Tourism Commission of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Macao Government Tourism Office, the Tourism Federation of Cities in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Bay Area was established in December 2017. The Federation comprises the tourism bodies of the nine cities of Guangdong Province as well as the two Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macao. The Secretariat of the Federation is set up at the Tourism Administration of Guangdong Province.

Macao Consumer Council to link Portuguese consumer organisations

Consumer organisations from nine cities in the Bay Area and two Special Administrative Regions held a working conference on 10th April in Macao. Discussion and planning on work projects regarding consumer rights protection were undertaken, while a 'Memorandum of Co-operation for Consumer Protection in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area' was signed.

The memorandum enhanced information exchange, interaction between organisations among the eleven cities in the Bay Area and also assigns the Macao Consumer Council as the platform for case referrals between cities in the Area and Portuguese consumer organisations, further enhancing Macao's crucial role as a 'platform'; procedures on how cases would be handled are also included in the memorandum.
