The Macao SAR Government Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) launched the improvement work on the Taipa Lotus Cycling Track on 25th July, with the construction area extending from south of the Lotus Cycling Track towards Coloane to the proximity of the temporary Customs post at Rua Marginal da Concórdia. The approximately 600-metre extension increases the total length of the Lotus Cycling Track to 1700 metres.

The improvements mirror the expansion of the seawall, with the breakwater by increasing the width of the current road to 8.5 metres. The new extended area will feature a walking track, cycling track, jogging track and recreational facilities to increase both sports and leisure areas for users. The cycling track will be separated from the main road by the greenery area in order to minimise dust for cyclists.

After comprehensively considering factors such as safety and the suitability of tree species for the cycling track, following the damage caused by Typhoon Hato last year, IACM has decided to replant small and medium sized, salt tolerant angiosperm trees suitable for coastal areas whilst ensuring that the environmental conditions for migratory birds will not be affected by construction.
