First Large-scale Russian Art Exhibition Opens in Macao

Jointly organised by the Macao Museum of Art (MAM), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and the State Tretyakov Gallery, the exhibition Masterpieces of Russian Art from the State Tretyakov Gallery - running from 18th January and concluding 22nd April - features 70 oil paintings and sculptures collected by the State Tretyakov Gallery. Masterpieces created by members of Peredvizhniki (The Wanderers) cover themes by Russian artists depicting folk culture, landscapes and portraits. The exhibition also marks the first large-scale Russian art exhibition held in Macao.

Presenting the major artistic styles and trends of Russia from the end of the 18th Century to the middle of the 20th Century, the exhibition reflects the unique features of Russian art from various perspectives as well as the comprehensive image, living habits and traits of Russia evolving over the past 200 years.

The works of renowned artists such as I.N. Kramskoi, I.Y. Repin, I.I. Shishkin, and V.Y. Makovsky, among others, are represented, enabling exhibition-goers to get close to original masterpiece oils and appreciate their influence upon Chinese oil painting in the early stages.

Masterpieces of Russian Art from the State Tretyakov Gallery exhibition - open daily from 10:00am to 7:00pm (no admittance after 6:30pm) - is closed on Mondays but open on public holidays. Admission is free. For more information, please visit the MAM website at: www.mam.gov.mo.
