During a meeting at Government Headquarters on 9th February with Mr. Werner Dornscheidt, President of the German company Messe Düsseldorf, MSAR Chief Executive Chui Sai On said that co-organising a major exhibition with such a renowned player in the industry would not only boost the development of Macau's MICE industry but further diversify Macau's economic structure.

The highly acclaimed company will, with Macau's MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) industry, co-organise a media exhibition in Macau in the third quarter of next year, to which Mr. Chui said the government would lend its full support in the hope it could become one of the territory's signature events. The Chief Executive appointed the Director of the Government Information Bureau, Mr. Victor Chan, to represent the government and provide all necessary support in the organization of the major exhibition.

He said he was happy to learn that the exhibition's working group had signed a memorandum of co-operation, signifying that preparation work was under way.

Economic diversification is a long-term development strategy of the MSAR Administration upon which it has already embarked in several fields. Promoting MICE, the cultural and creative industries, and traditional Chinese medicine would further expand Macau's economic scope, he asserted.

Mr. Dornscheidt said the memorandum would provide more co-operation opportunities for his company, the Macau Government, the working group and the industry at large, generating more innovation and attracting more international participants. To this end, he expressed the hope that it would become a world-class level project.

Also in attendance at the meeting were the Chief-of-Office of the Chief Executive's Office Ms. O Lam and the Director of the Government Information Bureau, Mr. Victor Chan, President of China news agency Zhang Xinxin, in addition to representatives of the working group including the Director of Macau Daily News Mr. Lok Po, Vice President of the Macau Convention & Exhibition Association Ms. Lo Tak Wah, and the President of the German Macau Business Association, Mr. Un Chong San.
