Macau Welcomes One Million Visitors During National Day Golden Week

More than 900,000 Mainland visitors arrived in Macau during National Day Golden Week

According to preliminary statistics from the Public Security Police Force (CPSP), visitor arrivals (including non-local employees and students) in Macau from 1st to 7th October (National Day Golden Week) hit 1,069,592 in total, up year-on-year by 2.72 per cent. Some 906,652 visitors came from the Mainland, with the figure increasing 7.11 per cent compared to the same period in 2014.

According to figures provided by the local trade, the average occupancy rate of 3 to 5-Star hotels was 86.86 per cent during the National Day Golden Week, down year-on-year by 0.3 per cent. The average occupancy rates of 3 and 4-Star hotels increased, whilst the average occupancy rate of 5-Star hotels reached 88.79 per cent, posting a 3.31 per cent decline.

The average room rate of 3 to 5-Star hotels in Macau was MOP1,477 during Golden Week, a year-on-year decrease of 21.96 per cent. On the other hand, the average room rate of local guesthouses to 5-Star hotels was MOP542 to MOP1,958, posting a declining percentage again. The worst drop was posted by 4-Star hotels whose average room rate was MOP1,151, down 28.09 per cent. The second worse drop was posted by 3-Star hotels at MOP1,321 for a drop of 20.15 per cent.

MGTO received four tourism-related complaints during the National Day Golden Week, mainly revolving around taxi services and consumption and a suggestion for a bus stop sign. MGTO's Inspection Division received only one complaint. During Golden Week, MGTO conducted 104 inspections at various ports and tourist spots. In terms of measures against illegal accommodation, MGTO conducted nine united actions, inspected 20 premises and sealed five allegedly operated as illegal accommodation.
