MGTO Promotional Activities in May

Numerous cultural, religious and sports events in May promise to demonstrate the richness and diversity of Macao. In order to attract visitors from around the world to Macao - UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) is participating in a packed schedule of activities in Portugal, Taiwan region, the United States, Hong Kong and Malaysia (in chronological order) to promote Macao's multifaceted tourism experiences.

Portugal

Macao will participate in Lisbon's International Film Festival - the IndieLisboa 2018 - from 27th April to 6th May, with a special section dedicated to Macao called 'Stories from Macao', in which four short films will be screened. The documentary 'Pass On' by Benz Wong will be featured, as will the fictional 'Illegalist' by Penny Lam and two animated short films, 'Between the Lies' by Lou Ka Choi and Leong Kin plus 'KaCha' by Deam Zhou and Sam Kin Hang. 'The Last Roar of a Mother Bear' by Macao filmmaker Doug Chan will be screened in the category of feature film.

Macau Tourism Promotion & Information Centre in Portugal (CPITMP) will once again partner the event, sponsoring three prizes for the film festival in the category of International Short Films for Best Animation, Best Fiction and Best Documentary. Macao Filmmaker Penny Lam will sit on the jury of the 'Silvestre' competition.

As in previous years, CPITMP will participate in the Lisbon Book Fair from 25th May to 13th June. During this extended event, Macao will be promoted via literature, book launches, authors' autograph sessions and other cultural activities.

Taiwan region

MGTO's PR Consultant will attend the Taipei Tourism Exposition (TTE) from 4th to 7th May, joining hands with 11 travel agencies to promote and sell Macao tourism products and packages. The MGTO booth set up in TTE - themed 'Experience Macao Your Own Style' - will feature 2018 Macao Year of Gastronomy. Signature dishes, various cuisines as well as the events and festivities of Macao will be showcased through colourful illustrations and drawings, enabling participants to be 'embraced' by the Macao scenery once stepping into the MGTO booth. Visitors will also be invited to win prizes by playing interactive games in the virtual reality (VR) zone and 65th Macau Grand Prix photo zone.

In addition, MGTO's PR Consultant will join the Taichung International Travel Fair from 25 th to 28th May, in which Macao tourism products and packages sold by various travel agencies will be featured.

United States

MGTO USA will meet with San Francisco-based tour operators and airlines from 5 th to 7th May to discuss Macao's new product offerings and promotional plans. Cathay Pacific is also a target airline MGTO USA hopes to meet with to explore ways to promote their codesharing with Cotai Water Jet in 2018.

MGTO USA will host the second edition of the Experience Macao Food Truck in Los Angeles, California from 29 th May to 2nd June, from which delicious pork chop buns and egg tarts will be served to the general public. MGTO USA will also host a trade preview for trade partners such as tour operators and travel advisors marketing Macao so that they can see the truck and taste the food prior to the truck officially going on the road.

Hong Kong

MGTO Hong Kong has organized 'A Taste of Macao' Month themed around an 'Experience Macao Savoury Style' campaign, lining up professional culinary institutes in Macao and Hong Kong via cooking demonstrations to enhance in-depth gastronomic cultural exchanges. Students have been inspired to create a Macao Menu for the guest tables of their own Educational Restaurant during 'A Taste of Macao' Month. As a starter for 'A Taste of Macao' Month on 10 th May, MGTO has organized a PR tasting event for food bloggers who will write reviews of the menu in order to spread the word about Macao Gastronomy.

To promote Macao as UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy and 2018 Year of Gastronomy, a Gastronomy Luncheon for the food industry will be held on 15th May at Club Lusitano. In addition, MGTO Hong Kong will introduce Macao's trending tourist spots, events and festivals as well as Hong Kong market promotional campaigns.

In order to update the industry on the latest tourism developments of Macao, on 17th May, MGTO Hong Kong will co-operate with the Hong Kong Association of Travel Agents (HATA) to organize the Product Update Luncheon for its 100 or so members at the Hilton Garden Inn in Mong Kok, at which Macao tourism, hotel industry development and festival events will be introduced. It also presents a golden opportunity for the Hong Kong office to reach more potential travel agents in Hong Kong.

MGTO Hong Kong will host the Hong Kong Incentive Agents Networking Meeting and Luncheon on 18th May, highlighting the most up-to-date incentive travel products and Macao's many hotels. Over 180 representatives from the travel industries of Hong Kong and Macao have been invited. The event will serve as an ideal platform to connect Hong Kong incentive agents and Macao trade suppliers - together creating the synergy to promote Macao as the perfect incentive destination.

Malaysia

In May and June, MGTO Malaysia will run a 'Macao on the Go' truck touring Kuala Lumpur to showcase Destination Macao. The 'Macao on the Go' truck will distribute authentic Macanese desserts to promote Macao's gastronomy. During Muslim fasting month, the truck will also stop at Ramadan Bazaar (and its massive street food fiestas) to promote Macao as a Muslim Friendly Destination.

Malaysia Radio Station - One FM's DJs Nicholas & Angeline will travel to Macao for a spending challenge activity entitled 'Fun Days in Macao' to promote the attractions and tourism products available in Macao. The DJs will broadcast live from Macao during the trip to share their experiences with their many fans.
