With World Tourism Day - falling worldwide on 27th September, and designated this year with the theme 'Tourism and the Digital Transformation' - Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) has organised a series of events, including distributing gifts to lucky tourists plus the popular Tray Race and World Tourism Day Dinner, to promote awareness among the community of the significance of tourism, especially in regard to its social, cultural, political and economic values.

On the morning of World Tourism Day, MGTO officials will present welcome souvenirs to lucky tourists at Macao Ferry Terminal. In the afternoon, the traditional Tray Race - starting from the Ruins of St. Paul's - pits competitors from the F&B industry of Macao in a mad dash through the streets and lanes of part of the Historic Centre of Macao bearing a tray of beer in a race to reach the Senado Square finishing point. In the evening, local travel trade partners and media representatives will be invited by MGTO to attend the World Tourism Day Dinner. All MGTO Tourist Information counters will present souvenirs to tourists throughout the day.

With 27th September designated World Tourism Day by the World Tourism Organization since 1980, an important message will continue to be delivered at this year's event. World Tourism Day 2018 highlights the relevance of digital technologies in tourism, in providing the sector with opportunities for innovation and in preparing for the future of work, on the map of sustainable development. This year, the World Tourism Organization's official celebrations of the day will be held in Budapest, Hungary.
