Under the patronage of the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture, organised by Macao SAR Government Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) and the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and co-organised by the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau and the Higher Education Bureau - with hotels and integrated resorts plus foreign consulates concurrently hosting art exhibitions - the five-month international arts and cultural event ‘Art Macao’ runs from June to October. The objective of the mega event is to develop the city into a world-class exchange platform for culture and arts in what promises to be an unforgettable Summer.

Two large-scale exhibitions will be launched as pre-events in the Macao Museum of Art in April and May; namely, ‘Italian Renaissance Drawings from the British Museum’ and ‘Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 20th Anniversary of Macao’s Return to the Motherland  Beauty in the New Era - Masterpieces from the Collection of the National Art Museum of China’.

Italian Renaissance Drawings from the British Museum - to be exhibited from 12th April to 30th June - features 52 drawings by 42 Italian Renaissance masters such as Mantegna, Correggio, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Titian, Raphael and Rosso Fiorentino, probing the important role of sketches in their works and the conceptual thinking of artists active from 1470 to 1580.

While this year marks the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci, the exhibition is inaugurated in April to honour his birth on 15th April 1452. In the exhibition, 3D printing and relevant technology will be introduced for the first time in Macao to provide a tactile experience for people with visual impairments, thereby promoting a cultural experience without boundaries.

The exhibition ‘Beauty in the New Era’, to be held from 4th May to 28th July, will feature some 90 masterpieces by various contemporary masters from the collection of the National Art Museum of China, including works by Qi Baishi, Zhang Daqian, Xu Beihong, Liu Haisu, Lin Fengmian, Fu Baoshi, Li Keran, among others, providing a comprehensive overview of the development of Chinese art over the past hundred years.

In June, Art Macao: International Art Exhibition will open in Macao Museum of Art, while successive exhibitions organised by various hotels and integrated resorts and foreign consulates will round out this Summer artfest.

This mega event also features large-scale concerts by Macao Orchestra and Macao Chinese Orchestra, signature programmes of Macao Cultural Centre, visual arts exhibitions of Macao higher education institutions and performances by the International Youth Music Festival, International Youth Dance Festival and International Youth Drama Festival, and so forth.
