On 1st March the Macao Civil Aviation Authority (AACM) implemented new aviation security requirements for Macau International Airport (MIA) and the heliport. Consequently, lighters (and matches) are forbidden to be carried on aircraft; selfie sticks, camera/video recorder tripods and monopods exceeding 30cm after retraction are also forbidden in carry-on baggage and must be transported in checked baggage.

To make the best endeavours in promoting the new requirements to passengers through different channels, AACM has updated airport signage and electronic media in what regards prohibited articles and dangerous goods. In addition, AACM has produced relevant promotional videos, which are currently being broadcast on electronic screens in the airport and other checkpoints, as well as on public bus TVs.

As lighters cannot be brought into Macau International Airport, authorities have installed a device in the airside smoking lounge of the terminal which facilitates the lighting of cigarettes by passengers who have passed security screening and wish to smoke prior to their flight.
