In order to steer the retail industry in Macao towards an advanced level of professionalism and steady upgrade of service quality to enhance customer satisfaction Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) launched the ‘Celebrity Mentor’ Workshop Series in collaboration with Sands Retail Academy on 24th April.

Cheung Wai Tsz - the major guest speaker in the first session of the ‘Celebrity Mentor’ Workshop Series this year, and a veteran cross-media professional and corporate trainer specialising in Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP) from Hong Kong - shared with about 250 retail professionals ways to enhance effectiveness and clarity of communication as well as build rapport with people of diverse profiles under the topic of ‘Power Communication Skills’.

By elaborating upon theories with practical skills, an interactive style of training, case sharing and so forth, Cheung explained various communication models and techniques to retail participants, advising them to meticulously analyse the attributes of customers and leverage strategies of effective communication to minimise misunderstanding and build trust and rapport with target customers; all of which is designed to strengthen confidence during communication and enhance sales performance.

Total spending (excluding gaming expenses) of visitors to Macao in 2018 reached MOP69.69 billion, a year-on-year surge of 13.6 per cent. Per capita spending of visitors was MOP1946, up 3.5 per cent year-on-year. Shopping spending of visitors climbed up 7.2 per cent year-on-year to constitute 47.1 per cent, a major proportion of per capita spending, underlining that retail service is a key component of visitors’ trip experience in Macao. In view of this, MGTO launched the ‘Celebrity Mentor’ Workshop Series in partnership with Sands Retail Academy last year, inviting public figures and key opinion leaders to share insights and lead inspiring discussions on the most relevant topics of interest for frontline professionals, with a view to the advancement of service quality and work productivity across the tourism industry in parallel with the city’s endeavours to become a world centre of tourism and leisure.
