This month, numerous cultural and religious events promise to demonstrate the richness and diversity of Macao. In order to attract visitors from around the world to Macao, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) is participating in a packed schedule of activities in Hong Kong, Malaysia, the United States, Taiwan region (in chronological order) and more to promote Macao tourism.

Hong Kong

On 8th May, MGTO Hong Kong and the Federation of Hong Kong Chinese Travel Agents (FHCTA) will co-organise a Product Update Luncheon attended by around 80 to 100 FHCTA members to share the latest tourism developments of Macao and market intelligence. The occasion also represents a golden opportunity for MGTO Hong Kong to reach more travel agents in the neighbouring territory of Hong Kong, while providing an effective platform for both parties to discuss the promotion of Macao tourism.

On 25th May, MGTO Hong Kong will host the Experience Macao Hong Kong Teacher Seminar. Over 120 primary and secondary school teachers and principals plus study tour organisations are slated to join the event to learn about the rich resources available in Macao for study tours and MGTO’s Travel Stimulation Programme.

Malaysia

From 10th to 12th May, MGTO Malaysia will participate in the 2019 Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Fair in Kota Kinabalu. The open booth spaces decorated with Macao elements will flag Macao’s UNESCO-listed World Heritage, the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of Macao SAR, multiple tourist sites, exciting events and festivals, the city’s UNESCO-listed gastronomy and culture, as well as selling attractive Macao and Pearl River Delta packages with interactive activities in its booth to attract visitors.

MGTO Malaysia will collaborate with Premier Travel Magazine to film a series of short films from 7th to 13th May, uncovering the hidden gems of Macao fronted by stories of gastronomy, art, culture and local lifestyle. Meanwhile, the Office will engage renowned Malaysian DJ Yin Yin and Macao Art Producer Suzuki Cheng to host videos about touching stories of Macao, to be shared with their followers and readers.

In addition, MGTO Malaysia will collaborate with Malaysia’s only Macanese restaurant - Fat Tea Macanese Food - to run ‘The Macanese Table’ gastronomy promotion. During the promotion, four Macanese food cooking demonstration videos will introduce the uniqueness of Macanese cuisine, to be later shared on social media platforms. A media luncheon hosted by the Office will enable Malaysia’s foodie media and influencers to experience Macanese cuisine, to be promoted via print, online and social media.

United States

In its role as Gold Sponsor of FIBEGA International Gastronomy Tourism in Miami, Florida, MGTO USA will promote Macao’s cuisine and its status as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy to a relevant and highly influential group of industry insiders and consumers. In addition to promoting recent tourism developments via a Macao-inspired booth, samples of Macanese treats, lion dance performances, and more, MGTO USA will expose FIBEGA guests to Macanese culture en masse to increase interest in travel to the destination.

MGTO USA will launch a 2019 iteration of the Office’s large-scale, multi-day consumer activator the ‘Experience Macao Food Truck’ in San Francisco, targeting a variety of relevant consumers, media, social media influencers and key trade partners. Some components incorporated into this year’s activation making it even more special include LED light elements highlighting the Macao Light Festival and a Senado Square-themed cafe where guests are invited to enjoy Macanese culinary favourites at their leisure.

Taiwan region

MGTO PR Consultant for the Taiwan region will set up a booth in the Taipei International Tourism Exposition throughout 17th to 20th May whilst partnering travel agencies in Taipei selling Macao travel packages in order to promote the territory and boost visitor arrivals to Macao during the Summer holidays.

In addition, the MGTO PR consultant for the Taiwan region will support Taiwan travel agencies selling Macao travel packages at the Kaohsiung International Travel Fair and Taichung International Travel Fair from 24th to 27th May and 31st May to 3rd June, respectively.
