MGTO Director Shares Insights with Local Youths

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) hosted two dialogue sessions between local youths and Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes on 11th and 27th April, respectively, to listen to their opinions and enable young participants to gain deeper insights into the background and thought processes behind governmental policies. Director Senna Fernandes aspires to create more involvement opportunities for the new generation in tourism-related affairs, listen openheartedly to their opinions and join them in building a more sustainable future for the tourism industry.

MGTO Director Senna Fernandes visited the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) on 11th April, and met with close to 170 students of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management at MUST and representatives of the Students’ Union of the faculty for an exchange of views. 

On this occasion, Director Senna Fernandes shared the work progress of MGTO with regard to participation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area development as well as various celebrations and promotional activities of the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region besides other topics, to familiarise students with the role of tourism and the latest tourism development. A wide scope of profound topics was aired including the opportunities brought by the Greater Bay Area development, cultural travel experiences offered by Macao, nighttime tourism products, the 7th Macao International Travel (Industry) Expo, tourism carrying capacity, non-gaming elements and employment prospects, among others. Students enthusiastically raised questions and shared their points of view, filling the session with a lively vibe.

Director Senna Fernandes also participated in a dialogue session with local youths at the 7th Macao International Travel (Industry) Expo (MITE) on 27th April, exchanging visions and insights with close to 80 youths from five youth organisations. Director Senna Fernandes and Deputy Director Ricky Hoi first elaborated upon the Office’s work progress of participation in the Greater Bay Area development, elaborating upon smart tourism and listening to opinions on the development of the Greater Bay Area.

With the myriad of possibilities opened up by the Greater Bay Area and new progress in smart tourism, Director Senna Fernandes remarked that MGTO can create new opportunities for young people to get involved in various ways, gain richer experience and stimulate their strengths. She said she looked forward to hearing different suggestions from the young generation and joining hands with them to steer the tourism industry towards a more sustainable future.
