MGTO Promotional Activities in September

The ‘Experience Macau Carnival’ Roadshow will visit the apm Mall in Hong Kong this month

In September, Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) will continue to initiate and participate in an array of promotional programmes in Thailand; Taiwan, China; Malaysia; UK; Hong Kong; Japan; USA and France, among other source markets.

Thailand

In August, MGTO mounted a co-promotion titled 'Last Minute Deal' with four travel agents to provide special price tour and packages with further benefits of free Venetian gondola tickets or free Macau Tower observation tickets. To make the most of the deal, customers have to book the package online - promoted via banner ads - by 31st October.

Taiwan, China

Shin Kong Bank of Taiwan is offering a promotion to its cardholders titled 'Tasteful Macau - Banyan Tree Independent Travel 3-day Package for $9,999 up'. The package includes free breakfast, Banyan Tree afternoon tea set, Broadway Macau Gourmet Pass food token, and Macau World Heritage Site Tour among other incentives. Shin Kong Bank cardholders can enjoy the discount and free gifts once they purchase the above package. The promotion lasts from 1st September to 20th December.

Malaysia

Taste MIGF 2015 - held on 4th & 5th September in Berjaya Times Square, Kuala Lumpur - is a spectacular preview event for the Malaysia International Gourmet Festival, which for this year's festival is themed 'Galaxy'. Taste MIGF showcases Destination Macau as a 'Macau Planet' and invites Chef Antonieta from Macau to conduct cooking demonstrations with food sampling, reinforcing the Destination Presentation focusing on the varieties of gourmet cuisine available in Macau. The event also takes the opportunity to promote the 10th Anniversary of the inscription of the Historic Centre of Macao on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Travel agents attending the event will sell Taste Macau packages to visitors.

MGTO is also participating in the MATTA Fair from 4th to 6th September in the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), Kuala Lumpur, to promote Destination Macau, in addition to supporting travel agents who frequently sell and promote Macau tour packages to their customers. MGTO is also collaborating with Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) by placing advertising with call-for-action Macau + Hong Kong tour packages in the travel supplement.

From 25th to 27th September, MGTO will hold an 'Only in Macau' exhibition at the Publika, in Kuala Lumpur, converting the venue into a replica of Macau Streets, with their signature green post road signs and white-blue signage; in-situ shops will also offer the visiting public a virtual experience of Macau. Through this event - heavily promoting the fast-approaching major events and festivals in Macau such as the 62nd Macau Grand Prix, Lusofonia, Macau International Marathon, Macau International Music Festival and Latin Parade - MGTO will present a kaleidoscope of perspectives on tiny but very big Macau.

UK

A 'Taste of PATA' comes to London on 10th September in London, primed to give attendees exactly that - a 'taste' of what customers can experience in the diverse destinations of the vast Asia Pacific region. Set up like a fair, each exhibitor is encouraged to be creative and make their stand as interactive as possible, with food, games, costumes, picture backdrops, photo opportunities, props and more. With a target of 250 people engaged in selling PATA destinations, this is the biggest and boldest showcase of the product in the UK market, and aspires to be both fun and informative.

Hong Kong

To attract more visitors from Hong Kong and to promote upcoming mega events, MGTO will hold the 'Experience Macau Carnival' Roadshow at apm Mall on 12th & 13th September. Hong Kong celebrities such as Chrissie Chau, Lau Ho Lung, Alex Fong and Tat Dik will attend with singer Terence Chui Chi Iong and Vivian Chan performing live on stage. During the roadshow, MGTO will liaise with travel agents to provide special travel packages for visitors, incorporating 'exclusive' discounts and offers.

In addition, MGTO will organize a Corporate Day on 16th September at Mira HK TST to promote Macau as a Rewarding Incentive Destination. Over 100 Hong Kong corporate representatives at top management level will be invited. They will receive the latest updates on Macau tourism developments, the newest incentive products available in the territory as well as MGTO's Travel Stimulation Programme.

Hong Kong Outbound Tour Operators Association Ltd. (OTOA) is one of the eight association members of TIC. In order to update them on the latest tourism developments of Macau and collect market intelligence and ideas from them MGTO Hong Kong will co-operate with OTOA to organize the Product Update Luncheon on 17th September at Hotel Icon in Tsim Sha Tsui for a presentation to 100 OTOA members. It will also be a golden opportunity to reach more travel agents in Hong Kong.

Japan

MGTO Japan will participate in JATA Japan Tourism EXPO 2015, the largest travel fair in Japan, and indeed Asia, from 24th to 27th September. The event, in the Tokyo International Exhibition Centre (Tokyo Big Sight), is expected to attract over 160,000 visitors. Representatives from some nine Macau travel trade organizations will participate in the event. The Macau booth will feature a 3-D photo corner competition whereby visitors can have their photos taken in Macau destinations for upload to their own SNS. Their photos will also be splashed on a display in real time.

For Macau Grand Prix enthusiasts, a Macau Grand Prix F3 state-of-the-art simulator will be installed in the booth to give visitors a true-to-life experience of racing around the narrow ultra-fast Guia circuit with a leader board posting times achieved. A special 'GILLE Photo and Video Corner' by rising Japanese singer GILLE is planned, including a talk show by the female artist who recently visited Macau for photo and video shoots and to experience the destination firsthand.

USA

In order to help further enhance Macau's already formidable foodie credentials MGTO USA will attend the 2015 Chicago Gourmet Food Festival on 25th & 26th September, partnering with local Macau-inspired restaurant Fat Rice to produce a variety of Macanese dishes to share with the 10,000+ festival attendees at an MGTO booth and 75 lucky guests during a special live cooking demonstration.

From 30th September to 4th October, MGTO USA will launch a multi-day, massive showcase of Macanese culture and heritage at Grand Central Station in New York City. The highly interactive event will reach hundreds of thousands of people as they pass through the major transportation hub in central Manhattan. This event will include dragon dancers, live cooking demonstrations, a photobooth, and a large-scale buildout of several of Macau's most iconic sites.

France

The IFTM Top Resa 2015 will run from 29th September to 2nd October in the Porte de Versailles Exhibition Hall in Paris. A participant in the IFTM Top Resa for several years, this year, MGTO will not only include information about Macau in its booth but set up a tasting experience, hard on the heels of the 'Macao à table!' campaign. French visitors will have the opportunity to cook and taste Macanese gastronomy through cooking classes and demonstrations by l'Atelier des Chefs, a leading cooking class company in Europe.
