‘Say Goodbye to Public Relations Disaster,’ says Akina Fong at MGTO Seminar

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) organised a seminar on the trending topic of 'Say Goodbye to Public Relations Disaster' at Macao Science Center on 26th June, primarily for local personnel working in the tourism and related industries including hotel and catering, travel agencies, licensed tour guides and the retail sector as well as MGTO staff.

At the Office's invitation, acclaimed Hong Kong media and public relations expert Akina Fong shared insights into how public relations in social media can counter corporate disasters in a seminar that attracted close to 170 participants. MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes and Deputy Director Cheng Wai Tong attended the event.

Guest speaker Akina Fong elaborated upon the characteristics of new media and how to manage them, in addition to related topics. She also shared her perspectives on examples of public relations disasters in social media, offering feasible solutions including her own experiences of handling such crises. Industry participants keenly listened to the talk, expressing genuine interest in the ideas shared, designed to encourage industry operators to be better equipped to rise to the challenges of the era of new media.

With her profound experience in journalism, Fong - an acclaimed media and public relations expert in Hong Kong - has a career portfolio that includes having worked as a principal reporter at Television Broadcasts Limited and a Senior Communications and Media Relations Officer with the Independent Commission Against Corruption. Today, she is a media professional rounded in various areas of multimedia and broadcasting including hosting TV and radio programmes, as well as emceeing, teaching at universities as a part-time lecturer and proffering advice as a media consultant.

MGTO regularly organises training sessions, seminars and workshops for personnel and operators in the tourism and related industries, thereby encouraging and helping them be better equipped through training, ultimately leading to the overall enhancement of service quality across the tourism industry in step with the city's vision of becoming a world centre of tourism and leisure.
